The Path philosophy

What is Wabi-Sabi?

Wabi-Sabi is a Japanese aesthetic philosophy that values imperfection, impermanence, and natural simplicity. In gardening, this means:

  • Asymmetry and randomness: Avoiding overly structured layouts to mimic nature.
  • Weathered elements: Using aged wood, moss-covered stones, and rustic materials.
  • Seasonal changes: Emphasising the transient beauty of blooming, decay, and renewal.

Organized Chaos

Organized chaos in gardening and landscaping is the practice of balancing natural, untamed beauty with intentional design. It embraces imperfection, spontaneity, and biodiversity while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic.

This approach blends principles from Japanese philosophy (Wabi-Sabi), natural forest cultivation (Shinrin-zukuri), and reforestation methods (Miyawaki Method) to create resilient, self-sustaining landscapes that feel both wild and intentional.
